Robertsdale Alabama

The middle of nowhere between Mobile Alabama and Pensacola Florida. As you can see in prior chapters of the blog we've been in the area before. The part of Robertsdale we've returned to so often is off exit 53 of I-10. We've spent time at three different RV parks in the area. Wilderness, Azalea Acres and Styx.

Wilderness is an adult park because there is not much there for children to do. It is the least improved of all of them and at the time we were there we had to shut off the water during the evening so the pipes wouldn't freeze. Not only shut off the water but disconnect and stow our hoses. It was a time of extended unusually cold weather down south. TheIr laundry room only had two washers and driers and the swimming pool, thought not in use, looked as if it would not be used during the summer months.

Styx is a much larger park. All pull through and several cabins. There are plenty of facilities for the children to enjoy and a great swimming pool for all. They pride themselves on social activities. Our first stay there we participated in a hobo supper. Just bring something and throw it into the pot. It was the best of the three parks.

Azalea Acres is also an adult park. It's only been open about three years and is in the process of continued improvement. Large sites that can handle fifty plus footers and wide enough that you are not right under your neighbors slide out. We found it a very enjoyable place to stay. I guess it had to be since we stayed for five weeks.

The reason for such a long stay at Azalea was because we were establishing our residence in Florida and need to get licenses and tags for that state. It is a long and drawn out affair when you don't really have a true residence in the state and no tow vehicle to run all the errands you need to make. Added to that we purchased some Chinese motor scooters that were delivered to us while there. There was some minor attachments to be made to them before they were completely ready. HA! But that's another story.

All of these parks are close to each other. so close that to get to Azalea you have to pass right by Wilderness. And Styx is just on the opposite side of I-10. The proximity of the parks also have something else in common. The all share the noise of the same shooting range. At these parks quiet is not the norm but you can get use to it.

Sky pillows

Watching the sky this morning I gazed at the clouds as they glided across the blue. A quieting sight. Watching the shades of the clouds change as the sun blazed through them. The thinner the cloud the whiter it was. Thick clouds blocked some of the light and the bottom of the fluff became shadows rimmed in white. Clouds can be very beautiful when you watch their varying shapes and colors. And Also very relaxing.

We are at a campground in Robertsdale, Florida. close to the Gulf of Mexico and not very high above sea level. Near us is a broadband tower. It's height also is unknown to me but my guess would be about 1000 feet. As I watched the clouds flow by I began to notice they were beginning to cover the top of the tower. It was like seeing something through a fog that got thicker and thicker until the upper part of the tower vanished. The clouds slowly hide from sight, I guess, the top fifty feet of it.

If it were not for the tower I would not have realized how low the clouds were or how high the tower is. Still don't really know but It was a beautiful sight to experience.
