Delaware Seashore SP, DE

A short distance down the road to another high priced DE State Park. We are bird watching still and that was our main reason for stopping there. We were disjointedly pleased. Disappointed because most of the migration has gone before us. Pleased because we were able to get some nice photos of several birds that are unfamiliar with. Our National Geographic American Bird book is very helpful in the identification process.

The campground is on a jetty. We had water, sewage and electric but no trees. We had plenty of wind though. Enough to keep us from putting out our chairs and awning but the temperature was and walking between the wind gust was comfortable.

Just like in the city we would often times hear sirens going of in the distance. Our second day an EMT vehicle came down the road that was next to the entrance to the campground. I felt it was going to continue further down the road to some houses past us. They did. Next I heard a chopper overhead.

The area and campground is used by fishermen because of it's access to salt water fish via boat and from the jetty. Many units we say were from Pa and the fishing seemed pretty good. But this day it was tragic. A fifty-four year old man fishing from the rocks slipped into the water. He was wearing waders and they filled up with water and acting like an anchor pulled him under. It is said he managed to get one off and reached the rocks again but the other boot, still on and filled, pulled him back under. the EMT had gone to the end of the jetty to see if they could spot him. It and the chopper had no luck and the next day they gave up the search for the body
